A smart contract is an agreement between two parties, usually a buyer and seller, written in computer code. The code and agreement are published to the blockchain with the execution and transactions being transparent and irrevisble. While Bitcoin and most blockchains can support smart contracts, Ethereum was the first blockchain to create turing-complete smart contracts, which are much more complex, robust applications.
